The Mississippi Swamp Dogs are an incredible Cruise Ship Party, Jazz and Lounge band. With an extensive repertoire of suitable songs from across the years, they’ve entertained passengers over a number of years with fabulous music, whilst cruising the oceans. Here are the guys playing party music in a recent promo video. So, how is such a band on land different from a Cruise Ship Party, Jazz and Lounge band? The answer is quite simple, you don’t go home at the end of the night! Well, you do go home, but home’s just down a passage or a flight of steps! This means you need everything with you. Charts, repertoire, spare equipment, the lot. You can’t buy a spare guitar lead halfway down the Amazon. As we learnt the hard way many moons ago.

Stamina plays an important part in the recipe too. Playing between 8pm and midnight with very short breaks is all very well. Playing on the Equator, out on deck, dressed in tuxedos and it becomes an endurance test! All the while you and the band need to be keeping the energy of up, keeping a smile on our faces, at the same time making sure the right songs are being picked for the crowd dancing in front.

Stylistically a Cruise Ship Lounge, Jazz and Party Band is able to adapt. On some nights demands are made on the band to play for dancing. Other nights people may want to relax, especially if the cruise specialises in historical visits and guests are exhausted after a long day trudging around an ancient site! On such evenings as this, maybe a chill out set of Dinner Jazz or Lounge Jazz is more appropriate. Something like the video below.
